I had a superb Russian style double-textured mackintosh from Biba in the 70's-mid green outside, red inside. It smelled nice and did its job excellently until one day I reached up to lift a briefcase down from a train luggage rack and heard a ripping sound as it "went" completely under one arm. A workmate had an off-white coachman's coat in similar material from Take Six. It is still possible to obtain mackintoshes like this today-often now called "bonded"-but at a very considerable price compared to yesteryear.

I still have a couple of long, see-through grey, plastic raincoats, one of which has a hood.if the weather is suitable, I wear them.
