The gaberdine I had at my Grammar school was the same colour, but without the hood

That's an unusual colour for a boy. There was a co-ed secondary school in town when I was at school where the boys wore navy blue gaberdines and the girls wore bottle green gaberdines.

Was local known as "Green Grammar"
Another was known as " Brown School"
Both due to colour of school uniform, blazers / coats / caps.
This was in the mid to late sixties.
By the time I left in summer of 70 nobody wore the gaberdine macs, in fact not sure they were available

I still had to wear one in early to mid 80s

Blimey. Must have been a "posh / strict " school
By the time i left in June 70 the over the head anorak / zip up anorak had replaced the gaberdine
These weren't the lightweight nylon cagools but quite heavy ones

Not so much a posh school but more my mother's insistence. Same with a nylon pakamac too
