Care instructions, anyone?

Post by Bill_P »

Need a little help here, guys (and gals). Just bought my wife a gorgeous silver rubberized satin mac secondhand. It's got a bit of ring around the collar and some makeup stains on the collar, as well as general dirt & grime along the hem & cuffs, and I'd like to clean it up before I give it to her. Unfortunately it's missing the care label. What's the best way to get those stains out? I took it to the dry cleaners & they said just use liquid diswashing detergent & warm water & hope for the best, otherwise I run the risk of ruining the rubber lining. Any other thoughts? Could I machine wash it & hang it to dry?

I'm a rubber-lined satin mackintosh person too and my wife looks so good in hers.

Now for the bad news I'm afraid. Dry cleaning is out as is machine washing. The best I can offer is to use a washing liquid and warm or cold water with it. But treat it carefully.

Sorry. In future, buy new if you can from a good vendor and dark colors do well.

Not a problem. I already tried the soap & warm water and got all the really big noticeable stains out. This coat was just too good of a bargain to pass up, and I've been wanting to get her a rubberized satin raincoat for the longest time but have had a limited budget lately. But I will definitely be getting her a new one in the future in royal blue or red.

Good to hear it worked well. I'll send you an email just in case you wish to talk further.
