Re: Rainwear and Rain bonnets
On the subject of rainwear and rain bonnets, in my teen years particularly my mother exerted total clothing control. I had worn plastic pacamacs from age 10 at all times when not at school, when the regulation gabardine raincoat was worn. As my pacamacs had no hoods, a plastic souwester was worn when rain threatened, However my mother thought a rain bonnet would look neater than a souwester as it would sit more snugly on my head but as these were only available from girl's clothing outlets that was where I was taken to be fitted with one. By that stage of my life I knew better than to complain and indeed got to like the neatness of a rain bonnet as opposed to the rather dorky clumsy look of my usual souwesters. Fast forward to today, now in my mid eighties my liking for plastic rainwear is undimmed and I recently bought a heavy shiny black PVC men's raincoat from Elements Rainwear in a large 4XL size that almost reaches to my ankles though I'm 6ft tall. This has a detachable hood that can be removed and studded on round my throat to make a neat rain bonnet, which I now love wearing. Now an old man in my mid 80s I'm past caring what others think.
