New to the site

Post by brinylonboy »

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site although I've know about it for a while.
I have plenty of kinks, one of them is rainwear.
My collect so far includes two Farmer rain sets of jacket and bib pants (Blue and Red), a Grunden set and some orange and red Henri Lloyd sailing gear, one is a full suit which is amazing as it is rubber lined, although it is a little difficult to get off when I'm sweaty, I'm always on the look out for a larger version, but it is difficult to find.
I've adventured into the forest about 60 minutes from my location and locally on a few occasions over the last few years. Only a few weeks ago I went to a relatively secluded place near me in the evening when it was raining, it had been raining for days, so lots of muddy puddles, it also has a public rights of way through some farmers fields, and round the edges of the fields, and there where some areas that I was allowed to walk that had amazing mud pits, I think horses or cows would have been wandered during the day and churned up the ground into a bit of a muddy quagmire, I had lots of fun playing in the mud and getting it all over me which was a lot of fun. Not so much when I got back to my car, as the next day, it took a good 45 minutes to clean off all the mud I left in it. :D

Hello Brinylonboy, welcome to this forum. It sounds as if we have similar interests, I sometimes combine shiny rainwear with wet and muddy situations, although it is a bit cold at this time of the year.

New to the site but not to rainwear

Post by Henridrysuitist »

I am new to the site also. I have been looking at the site for a few years already and have seen that a lot of people seem to have the same interests as myself. This all started for me when I was around 12 years old in 1984 having been given a set of waterproofs at a school outward bounds centre to wear. It rained a lot on that trip and we had to wear a heavy duty cagoule and trouser set for a few days. They were made out of really noisy quite heavy rubber totally sealed and unbreathable coated nylon. I later learned that this was neoprene coated nylon and as a result all of my current collection of trousers, suits and cagoules is either made out of this or cheaper lighter weight but crucially unbreathable polyurethane coated nylon. I wear these regularly, often multi layered often with a similar vintage nylon drysuit underneath combined with latex gloves and a latex hood (to stop the drips if i get hot) and feel brilliant every time. Nowadays and due to the fact that old 1980s henri lloyd, field and trek especially in XL sizes are rare it is getting harder to find replacement items unless you purchase currently available centre waterproofs which are a bit basic, noticeably uncool if you wish to wear them out in the rain in view of others. I often wonder if someone could get some of these old Peter storm, Henri lloyd, Musto, Sprayway, and Field and Trek cagoules and parkas remade for other like minded individuals. Judging by the sometimes heavy competition on ebay and other similar sites often on very poor items there is a demand. This scarcity has pushed me into the hugely time consuming task of my making my own items from fabric that is still available online using old worn out jackets and trousers as patterns and these have been very successful. With fabric available in various colours and weights it has even been possible to make interesting garments such as hooded sleepsacks and fully waterproof strait jackets to add a little bit more. Luckily my wife of many years is fine with all this even if she does not personally like the feel of this type of gear.
