Re: 80's police waterproofs
I still have one of those very heavy navy blue nylon police raincoats, a relic of a time when a late (male) partner collected police gear of all types. The label inside says "A genuine ScottyMac" and it has the shoulder loops to attach the epaulettes that would have been worn by a policeman on duty. Your posting has reminded me I must get it out and wear it next time there is a really heavy downpour.

I really like the nylon on these coats.
The long mac isn't as shiny as this.

I have a long heavy nylon waterproof police mackintosh that I know dates back to at least the 1970s as the friend who had it before me owned it then and indeed earlier. It has epaulette loops to hold police numerals. I often wear it in heavy rain and it is totally waterproof. Sorry I dont have the tech skills to take a photo. The makers label inside says "ScottyMac" made in Bishopbriggs Scotland

I'm surprised at how waterproof these are. I wore the mac and pants for the first time in a deluge doing outside work and they were great.plasticpacamac wrote: October 27th, 2024, 5:48 pm I have a long heavy nylon waterproof police mackintosh that I know dates back to at least the 1970s as the friend who had it before me owned it then and indeed earlier. I also found a brown version of the same mac made by Stourmac. It had a london underground book in the pocket, so may have been uniform for them? Even though it had been buried for years, after a good wash it's come up like new. None of the stitching or nylon has rotted. They don't make them like they used to.

Re: 80's police waterproofs
I have had one of these police macs since the early 1980s that had been once owned by my late partner. I still wear it in heavy downpours as it is still perfectly waterprroof.
