Do we grow into a pvc fetish?

There is, I think, a more technical answer to this often asked question. In his 1969 book, "The Human Zoo", (a follow-up to his best-seller, "The Naked Ape"), zoologist Dr. Desmond Morris asserted that all animals have a sub-conscious mechanism by which they recognise their species, their family, and their sex. He called this 'imprinting'. Things can go wrong, leading to 'mal-imprinting'. He asserted that fetishes are an example of mal-imprinting, most commonly with regard to sexual attraction. It can also occur in the other areas. Perhaps this is why some people experience their nascent fetishism well before puberty. The whole subject is certainly very complex.

I only started to appreciate and realise why heavy PVC raingear and rubber had an effect on me at around age 14 in the eighties.

It went for about 12 years then before I started to consider how I may have got this interest as there had been a gap of eight years at 14 since I had been made to wear a very bright Red Plastic mack and souwester to school when very young.

Like others here who have said about associating this 'interest / fetish ' with occurrances at a young age, I believe mine to stem from the fact that even in 1976 when I had to wear this raincoat to school, although girls wore them frequently, not many boys had such glossy plastic raincoats or worn in such bright colours and so at the time I remember not wanting to wear it to school.

At the age of eight a female teacher used to drive me home on very wet days and she herself wore the whole raingear set - bright wellingtons, shiny Rukka style Mack and big floppy rubber Souwesters constantly.
I think it was her saying on occasion how smart and sensible I looked then that subconciously stuck with me since.
My view is that as young kids you don't want to stand out especially in school, by the time you get older your inhibitions slip away more and you develop wearing clothes more for purpose and less for fashionable reasons.

I bet there are any amount of doctors and the like who have very plausible and educated studies on the subject but I don't think it is much different to the bloke who likes to see women in stockings and suspenders or the female who likes firefighters in uniform. Any interest can be consuming or develop into both healthy or negative ones.
Perhaps a pvc / rubber fetish grows with us.

Thanks to those who replied,there are some interesting comments.Until the last couple of years,I thought I was the only one who had this 'thing' about pvc/plastic. Having seen rainwear central,I know now this is not so.Its good to know there are others out there with this love,or fetish,for pvc.

I felt an attraction to raincoats, when I found two raincoats that my parents had acquired for my older brothers a few years earlier. My brothers will never wear them. They fell into oblivion before I found them. When I discovered them, I tried them on, they were the right size, I must have been 11 or 12 years old.
When I tried them on, I had such an inexplicable pleasure that I felt the need to postpone one a little later and then start again and again, I just put on the garment and wore it for about ten minutes. Continuation of my story.
I confided my fetish to my new wife who listened to me. For her, we have to live our desires, our fantasies, our fetishes. She doesn't feel the same sensations as me but understands me.
I dream that one day, she will surprise me by introducing herself to me, dressed only in one of these dream raincoats, I will put on one in turn and we will have long hugs!

I can definitely remember liking wearing plastic pants and loving sliding under my plastic sheet on the bed and being tightly covered in plastic sheet between it and the mattress that also had a cover on it already. I didn’t of course have a clue why but as i got older and stopped using the sheets, i found where mum had out them (in the drawer under my bed) and used to out them on myself at night and take it off in the morning before school. I used to borrow my little brothers plastic pants who wore them at night still until one day something happened and I had an intense feeling down there which felt amazing.
