regenhoedje, thanks for finding this 1939 film. It’s very interesting to see some of the earliest plastic raincoats, obviously more acceptable in high society than later, say, in the 40’s and 50’s when they seemed to be largely only worn by “the working classes”. The style of the cape is interesting in itself, as the hood, pointed pixie style, seems to be only loosely attached and there seems to be a large piece of plastic forward of the left shoulder, whose purpose is not obvious. It is also strange that the woman is wearing a floor length skirt, but the cape barely reaches her knees, being rather useless for rain protection. But thanks again, great to see.

Hi Beth! Yeah, the mac that Katja Flint wears in the film is a really shiny one. My partner Bettina has a very shiny orange one that is similar (hooded and does up with black plastic press-studs). Your new mac sounds great - ENJOY!
