I was in London yesterday and took with me a white semi-transparent plastic mac (hood + belt, of course) but you know what, the rain seemed to clear for a few minutes or so every time I needed to go out so I didn't get to wear it! What a disappointment. Hoipe the rest of you were able to get some mac time in.
Rainfash - I don't have a long Plastico mac so I can't say what the fabric is like. I would guess it is the same as the short ones.
What did you decide to wear in today's rain?

Re: What did you decide to wear in today's rain?
This morning in the South of England it was raining very hard. I spotted a lady wearing a pair of colourful wellies and big long scarf with a transparent umbrella walking down the road. No raincoat though. Tonight I saw her walking back home minus the wellies as it was sunny.
I also saw her once before last December when it snowed here wearing the wellies, so she is clearly a pratical wearer. Hopefully this winter coming will provide more sightings of her.

It also poured down in South Wales this morning, thunder lightning and hail at times but the new style here seems to be shorts/Short skirt, T-shirt and a cheap umbrella !
Call me a traditionalist but I had to go against Swansea fashion and wear a long Yellow PVC slicker that I bought in Chicago three weeks ago, needless to say I was warm and very dry all morning.

Jjai: please tell us more about the long PVC slicker that you wore today and purchased recently in Chicago. I own one that I purchased two years ago through the Vermont Country Store. It bears the Acadia label. I think I mentioned it on a previous post about a year ago. I hope to continue writing my chronicle of memorable rainfall events during my school years in New Jersey from 1968 to 1981 and to do so soon.

Hi Joe
As I mentioned I went to Chicago about three weeks ago at the invite of an old friend i met when I was with the Royal navy based in Washington, she is now a Commander and originally comes from Chicago - Calumet city I think.
Anyway the Yellow trenchcoat or 'Slicker' I bought in a small store on Michigan avenue quite near the Art Institute.
It only cost $15.98 is bright Yellow PVC but not the shiny material it is pretty thick at about 0.35m and has deep flapped pockets to the front and a detachable hood. The collar is thick Black corduroy and it is cotton lined inside. I wore it twice while I was there once to Lincoln park during which there was a spectacular thunderstorm and again the the Art Institute when it was only light rain but it was so comfortable that I had it on all day and wore it to the House of Blues in the evening as it was still quite stormy still.
I will say that it easily dealt with every heavy rainstorm when I wore it and it was quite cool though even as it is quite a heavy raincoat. I have no hesitation wearing it out in the UK as it was such a good purchase.
Whilst in Chicago I noticed that a lot of the women don't hesitate to wear wellies and macs even if the forecast says it might rain and I liked some of the really eyecatching designs they had. I also saw some women wearing the shiny polyurethane style raincoats which I later saw for sale in Maceys.
When I was last in Chicago I went to watch a Bears game during wet weather and hundreds of guys were wearing Orange plastic poncho's and raincapes it was great.
Anyway I hope you are doing well with your chronicle,
regards
James

Rubber cardigan sounds good! Now the owner and wearer of a couple of typical old-man's cardigans, wearing a rubber one would allow me to be properly waterproofed!rainbeau wrote: June 19th, 2011, 8:32 pmWore all ths lot again today, and it didn't rain again, very hot and sticky. Got some strange looks toorainbeau wrote:No - black pvc trousers, then black rubber trousers,a black pvc shirt, a thick purple rubber jumper and purple rubber cardigan (both knitted out of rubber 'wool' - a hot find on ebay). As an old man who now wears cardigans a rubber one would keep me both dry and safely buttoned=up.
