Working in London in the mid 70's and commuting I happened upon an 'adult' book shop near Euston station. To my utter delight I found a few publications that specialised in pictures of women dressed in rubber/plastic etc. At this point I realised that my desires were not perhaps mainstream but I was at least not alone. That led over time to publications such as Search, Relate,at the incomparable "Pussy Cat", and later the whole family of Shiny, Dressing for Pleasure etc. At one point, probably late 70,s I ordered catalogues from Sealwear ? and another rubber clothing supplier (I can't remember the name at the moment) and asked for them to be sent to my office address with a request that they be marked "Personal". They duly arrived but not before being dutifully opened by my ever diligent clerical officer who, as a very pretty young girl, passed them to me without so much as blush or a smirk!

I cannot imagine how hard it must've been to find other rainwear lovers before the internet.

There was always The (International) Mackintosh Society, and later, following the split, also Mach 2 where you could meet real "enthusiasts", as we liked to call ourselves, and get up close to all kinds of rubber and PVC stuff.

I guess outside UK very few people did know that something like the Mackintosh Society did exist at all... how to get to such info when nobody in your local area knows about it? I think only people who dared to buy some of those specific magazines like Gum or Klep might have got knowledge.

When I was a child I used to go through the Kay catalogue we got at home each year. There was always a section on what I'd call utility rainwear: shiny pvc oilskin jackets and leggings (my Dad had a jacket and leggings which I'm sure came from the catalogue), plus yellow oilskin cycle capes. The ladies section always had some nice boots too.
I seem to recall a thick magazine printed on newspaper that used to have some rainwear ads, but also rubber pants? Or maybe I'm mistaken? I'm sure others on this site might have a better memory.
As a teenager, probably about 16 (1970-ish) I discovered the top shelf mags. First it was Janus which ticked me CP fetish bad, but the other was Relate. And one of the first I bought was the Relate Rubber Special or Handbook? Yellow cover, A5 size so you could just about tuck it in your jacket pocket and hide it from view!!!
Then I found Search, Atomise and Madame, later of course being a femdom mag but with pics of Ladies in shiny capes and shiny boots! Relate was the best for rubber and pvc though. Weirdly, and rather disappointingly now, I never discovered Atomage. It as only much later in life I became aware of this fabulous publication.
Later came Shiny, Dressing for Pleasure. Fab mags.

That's wild. Like Tiefdruckgebiet said above, catching wind of these places even existing must've been like finding a needle in a haystack!

I sadly never heard of the International Mackintosh Society until the internet. Was it ever advertised in Relate or Search?

Somewhere in the 2000s I discovered the MacSoc and can remember their website banner, but at that time I wasn't as active an experienced like today so I knew there was something in the UK but nothing more happened.

If I remember correctly the newspaer type magazine was Exchange and Mart which was a sort of eBay by post without the Internet.

Both the Mackintosh Society and Mach 2 were very off-putting to single males attending events. I can understand that there might be some undesirable single men around but not all would want to make advances to their wife's or girlfriends, which is basically what they were afraid of. I was a member of both at one time but gave it up because of their attitude and squabbling
