I still have some Shiny Magazines.

@rubberdee what a pity they were that way inclined. What could they have been squabbling about?

@Stephens Basically I believe it was a clash of personalities although missing money and rubber items were also dragged into it. Very long time ago now and I hope all has been forgotten. I have to state that the above is what I surmised, I was not personally involved so it is basically hear-say

There were always tensions between those who ran the organisation from the beginning as a sort of benevolent dictatorship with the objective of maintaining "respectability" (somewhere a man could take a sceptical woman friend for example and show her that there was nothing going on that would frighten the horses) and those who wanted a more, shall we say, democratic approach, based on doing things that a majority of members wanted, which might have been more "challenging". Those tensions grew through the 70's and 80's as society in general appeared to be moving in the direction of greater openness/acceptance of activities that would once have been considered by many to be sexual deviation.

i have loads of shiny mags and similar never been sure what to do with them now internet takes care of all those needs now

Fond memories of Shiny mags etc all of which I no longer have .As wellygirl says the Internet now takes care of those needs. Having said that I do miss the frisson of buying them in the first place and the eager anticipation of being able to "relax" with them once home. Also there was something to be said for having a hard copy of them rather than resorting to a screen. Occasionally I come across an image on the Internet taken from a copy I once had which can bring back happy memories!

I was one of many it seems that were sustained in the 60's and 70's by brochures from the likes of South Buck Rainwear, Gayetime Mackintoshes,
Mac Mac, Cocoon and Sealwear. My first rubber magazine purchase was Pussy Cat which was a fine colour product. Later I also subscribed to Smooth and received it monthly right up to the end with issue 109. Incidentally you can see all the front covers of Smooth on the Swish publications website.

Pussy Cat was a very fine magazine in more ways than one. Printed on high quality paper with a slightly larger format than Shiny etc. The pictures were all very high quality from a technical as well as subject point of view. Sadly it was relatively shortlived and never saw the success of the Shiny family of magazines. It's rare to see second hand copies for sale.
