probably because it is not really vinyl. it could be PU or pleather.

This looks the same fabric as a mac that recently bought from a charity shop( not for sale), the pockets are different from yours and the seams on mine are welded not stitched. The coat that I have is probably about 30 years old.

There's other options in the same fabric a trenchcoat have I
got just the short jacket?
