Great clip and thanks! Wouldn't it be great to revive those classic see through raincoats again!

Halcyon days indeed...a plastic raincoat revival is long overdue but how do we change the mind set of the masses....seems it's cool to get wet in the rain nowadays regardless of catching colds or flu!...then there's the anti-plastic brigade getting on their environmental soap box...it's going to take a hell of a battle to get plastic rainwear as ubiquitous as it once was but who knows...fashions tend to recycle themselves over time so maybe there's hope!

well rainsplosh, as it is virtually impossible to buy plastic rainwear in any high street shops it may well prove difficult. Plus we live in a different era now anyway. As people tend to use acar to go from door to door rather than the days of waiting for the bus and walking then the need to be prepared is rather less so.

rainsplosh I love your enthusiasm and positive attitude but sadly I think you’re misguided if you think the plastic raincoat will ever make a big return

Every year people like Primark (sorry Merv), H&M, Topshop, ASOS etc. produce some plastic rainwear, apart from Primark most of it seems very expensive and as discussed before not much of this rainwear appears in daily life

I’m not even sure the ‘it’s cool to get wet’ argument stands up that well either, as most of us know even on the coolest of days plastic rainwear is very warm and makes you sweat and while some people might enjoy this majority of raincoat wearers are aiming to stay dry, not end up wetter on the inside than they are on the outside

As most ‘old fashioned’ town centres have disappeared most seem happy to use an umbrella as they jump out of their car and into the Trafford Centre etc

There will always be a place for plastic raincoats, especially among those wanting to make a statement or who actually like them, but even if they come back into fashion they will never be mainstream again

I agree Ray.
If you look at Topshop etc their pvc macs are expensive I saw one at £105 on their website then it looked a copy of one of the high end PVC U LIKE coats.
Yes it is true that if you wear a pvc coat it does make you sweat and our ladies do not like that.

It is rare now to find girls/ladies who do actually wear a nice mac.

But as you all say it they may return if the coats are not priced out of the market.

Best wishes

Paul

I take your point Ray about the primark and h&m raincoats but they were a very small range. I put it to you that if i went into Norwich (my nearest large shopping centre) today I would struggle to buy a plastic raincoat.

@ Paul, on the subject of how hot they are, someone mentioned the other day about mothers dressing their daughters in PVC Rainwear but not dressing in it themselves

I wonder how many young girls remember the bad experience of being dragged round red hot shopping centres and think 'not for me'

@Merv, yep its nothing you could call mainsream they usually have one design and a few colours but nothing to start a revolution, a guess a lot of those might be for the Festival market

@ Merv & Ray....i can't disagree with any of your comments and yes...may'be it's wishfull thinking on my part having lived through those great days too, but i like to remain hopefull even though deep down i guess it's misguided optimism ....maybe it's just hard to let go and accept times have changed like you said merv. You’re spot on Ray regarding ‘old fashioned’ town centres disappearing,,my local town of Wellington used to be a wonderful place to purchase plastic rainwear at the open air market and if the weather was inclement even better the sight of shoppers and stallholders alike wearing it.Sadly the town’s character has changed and it looks like many other towns in the area…sanitised.Oh well…may’be I’m just a rainwear luddite at heart lol!
