This is such wonderful period footage. These are such representative raincoats for women during the hard times of the Great Depression at least in the U.S. They were rather an economical choice during this period. These raincoats or rain capes were often made of cellophane, and were meant to be worn over a wool overcoat as some of the nurses are doing here I find that it’s a really great look to have that outer layer of waterproof rain protection a coat that is not really meant for the rain. I love the idea of a plastic raincoat as the outer layer of wool coat. Sometimes we wore plastic raincoats over winter coats going to school back in the day.
