I think it must be a different series that you refer to - would love to know the name of it now! The BBC Screen One movies are an anthology of unconnected films of different genres and, as far as I am aware, Alison Steadman only appeared in this one (News Hounds).

The more I think of it it was a one off drama rather than a series maybe I'm confused about it being Alison Steadman wearing the mac
