Wearing rainwear in public

Hi!

Does anybody else get a kick out of wearing "over the top" rainwear combinations in public?

I certainly do... Just came home after a outing... Been visiting a couple of small shops today wearing rainwear.
Don´t know if it really was an "over the top" rainwear combination I wore... Had my marineblue pu jacket and orange pvc bibs ontop and then my old bright yellow "rubbery pvc" rukka rainjacket (which I was fortunate to find at a fleamarket) ontop of it all. Wore my old nokia kontio boots and bright blue rubber householdgloves.
All suited up like that I went to a small shop (that I hardly ever visit except for when I´m in rainwear). Had the rukka jacket fastened as I entered but opened it to reveal my bibs and jacket underneath as soon as I got in. The woman at the counter looked at me for a split second before she turned away. I browsed the shop for a few minutes before I decided to go. The woman looked at me again as I went but she said nothing... Sure would been nice to know what she was thinking...

I did the same thing at another small shop a few miles away, but without the yellow rukka on... Didn´t get a reaction out of the woman at the counter as I paid for my shopping... she handled everything as normal, didn´t even look at my gear twice even though I handed over the money with my gloved hands (accidentaly touching her hand...)

My gear might not be "over the top" for you my fellow rainwearlovers but here it sure must have been as hardly anybody wears rainwear here...

Anybody like doing similar things in rainwear?

Not necessarily what but when.

My lovely partner has no problem going out in public wearing a raincoat on a warm, sunny day. Many times that will be the only clothing she has on, preventing her from taking it off if it warms up too much.
Needless to say, it makes me pretty hot too.......... :D

I love wearing rainwear in public! I'm getting a lot more confident wearing various rainwear combinations, but mainly only when it's raining.

The most "over the top" combo I wear is my very shiny yellow Rukka mac (yes, I've got one now) over my even shinier yellow Plastico waterproof rainpants tucked inside matching yellow wellies from Target USA. It looks just great!

Usually I wear my shiny green Rukka which doesn't attract as many looks or my long clear plastic raincoat from PVC U LIKE which actually excites no interest at all, even when its dry (providing it looks like rain, or has just been raining)

dont think I would be inclined to go as over the top as that as I have no real wish to try and get a reaction. I am quite happy to just wear either a pvc raincoat if walking or perhaps my pvc jacket with the nylon rainpants if cycling. All in dark colours apart from the seethru no fear jacket, so nothing outrageous

I don't have the courage to wear any rainwear outside at all, the area I live in are quite narrow minded. So if I ever do build up some courage mine would be inconspicuous

Hello,

I often wear my raincoats outside but only when the weather is rainy. Among my colletion of raincoats ( more than 100), I often wear see throu grey or white long and hooded raincoats, shiny dark or dark blue. I keep them for shopping in supermarket or smaller shops.
Till now I haven't wear in town a pvc raincape , except during night. I am still too shy to do it during the day but I look after myself and do not dare hopelessly to do it one day.

just do it. Clearly it would be odd if you went out wearing a plastic raincoat or the like on a hot sunny day but next time it is raining just slip on something inconspicuous in the rainwear line and go for it. You will be surprised at how little notice anyone takes. What is strange about wearing appropriate clothing for the weather

I travelled up to London from various places for over 35 years and, never having the facility to have been "dropped off" and rarely having been able to catch a bus to my local station, always wore some form of waterproof mackintosh (and for a while Regatta rubber-lined green nylon overtrousers) in the rain to protect my suit. During that time I probably tried almost every type of waterproof material available and received very few comments either way.

I can recall once being called a "flasher" when in shiny black PVC from Cocoon and hearing a door guard ask a colleague in a loud voice whether I was going on to "have the operation" so as I could "wear the rest of the clothes". On the plus side, I made a new friend who was an SBR fan and "inspired" at least one female colleague who had never had one before to buy a PVC mac. Overall, however, slim pickings from over 35 years. Most people are, I think, too busy getting on with their own business to care too much about what others are doing provided it doesn't "frighten the horses". But then again I have never lived in a small community and always worked in central London.

Hi,
As I have told earlier here in the Forum, I only wear a dark Blue raincape from PUL and wellies in the streets of my village if it really rains, or just has rained. Nobody looks at me, people are busy to come home in the rain.
If I am walking outside the village and I meet persons walking their dog , then it happens that the dog reacts, looking at me (What's that, is that a person...?) and some times barking to me !
The owner of the dog excused himself then. ;)
Greetings ,Peter
