Did others see the repeat last night of the original (early 1950s) version of the film of George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984 on UK TV last night? There are many sequences in which men are shown wearing shiny black PVC raincoats, all stamped on the back with their names and party membership details so that their wearers could be instantly identified by the "thought police" who kept everyone under constant surveillance. Despite the grim theme I must admit to finding the sight of so many shiny black PVC macks in a film a right turn-on!
