The unexpected

I haven't posted on this forum for some time but I have to tell someone about this morning when I walked the dog. I live in a small Cambridgeshire village and it was my turn to walk the dog, my wife was getting ready to go out shoping and I was to dive her. I waited till it was starting to get light and it was sleeting rather heavily so I put on my red nylon Rainmac and buttoned and belted it and with hood up set off on the usual walk across the fields. My wife tolerates my mac wearing but only if its a navy or black one, red is a no no or less in the back garden, however as it was nearly dark and she was upstairs getting ready I took a chance.
I had only gone about a hundred yards when I saw someone walking towards me (it would be only dog walkers at this time of day). I quickly made out it was a women with too dogs however I immediately saw she was wearing a red mac also and with hood up, it was just below the knee and I think rubber lined. What followed is what amazed me most. She said 'we are matching, nice', I said 'pardon' even though I had heard her, she said 'we have matching coats' I said in a throw away tone I think, 'oh the raincoats' to which she said 'very nice' and smiled and went on her way. I actually thought for a moment that I has seen some kind of vision as she disappeared into the trees.
I know occasionally some stories like this are a bit of a fairy story but I am I think level headed and this is straight up. What happened then on my way to the shops confirmed to me that it was no vision. I told my wife, which was a big mistake, she blew the biggest fuse imaginable. What was I thinking about going out in public in that mac etc etc. I am going to burn the lot. She eventually cooled down a bit and actually asked who it was. I said I had no idea but described her, c 30 years old with two terrier type dogs, she instantly knew who it was and went off again. She has now gone out to get her hair done and hopefully has calmed down when she gets back. Incidently I wore a ladies navy Dannimac when we went to the shops and she said she just tolerates this one.
