I was out shopping in Wandsworth the other day wearing one of my very shiny black PVC macs and I went in to Blacks to see if they had any shiny boots.
I couldn't really see anything so I asked one of the female assistants if they had any and she smiled and replied : 'Yes, you definitely need some shiny boots to go with your lovely shiny coat, because I always wear shiny boots with my shiny mac !'
Well, of course I was absolutely thrilled to hear this so we chatted for about our passion for shiny PVC and macs for about 10 minutes.
She admitted that she'd always had a thing for shiny clothes ever since she was young and I was especially excited when she told me she had several shiny black macs in different styles at home. Her favourite being a long black double breasted trench coat which she assured me was extremely shiny and noisy.
We both agreed that it was so nice to meet and chat to someone who felt the same way about shiny raincoats.
I said to her that I hoped we could talk again, about all things shiny and she said she'd be happy to and hoped that next time she saw me that I would be wearing some nice new shiny boots too !
That was a very happy meeting indeed and really made my day.

Coincidentally, the same day, a girl working in Clarks shoes was very complimentary of my mac and asked me where she could buy a shiny coat so I mentioned PVC U Like and Rainmac. She said she couldn't wait to get home and have a look at their websites. She wanted a long red double breasted mac and a matching hat !

Then it happened again today out side Wimbledon station - a female charity worker came up to me and started asking where she could buy a shiny mac from as she thought they looked awesome ! She even asked me if I had more than one mackintosh and I admitted I had several. She smiled and said : 'I don't blame you. They feel really nice !'

I really hope some buyers for high street shops read this forum as there must be lots of women like these 3.

I'm sure the rise of the summer festival has probably helped shiny rainwear gain acceptance.

Let's hope Garry's aim to take the PUL brand more mainstream takes off.

My intention later in the year after the move is to concentrate on more mainstream activities. I want to give the PVCRainwear site a good overhaul and then go Global! It is my intention to become the king of PVC! I would love to see a day when PVC rainwear is accepted and worn by as many ladies in the high street as possible!

I wish you luck in the venture but I think we have to be realistic that pvc rainwear will only ever be a niche market, that said it could still be a decent sized niche. The thing is that pvc rainwear is not the most practical item to be wearing for any length of time as you end up sweatier, and this wetter, than if you were just getting wet anyway. Now if someone could invent a pvc that was breathable that would be something else.

Merv, you are far too sensible. When has fashion ever been about practicality? If that was the case why the hell would people wear cotton / fleece based hoodies out in heavy rain instead of a raincoat, but they do and getting sopping wet in something that is going to take ages to dry out.

With PVC it's all about getting it being desired again. A lot of celebrities seem to be wearing pvc, plastic and latex again so that is the start.

I would not be too pessimistic. In the 70s people wore PVC very often and they did not care to sweat.
Nowadays the clothing shops are full of polyester garment which make you sweat, too.
Many shoes are not made from real lrather. people do sweat in them, too.
Unfortunately PVC and Vinyl are uncool, because they are classified as being dangerous for your health due to plasticizers. THIS AWARENESS WASNT THERE IN THE /=S; WHERE PEOPLE DID NOT CARE BECAUSE THEY DID NOT KNOW:

As somebody who has often been asked by ladies where to buy a PVC mac I think more people would purchase them if they knew where to obtain them.

You see the odd advert by Rainmac. Weathervain and Hamilton Classics in the weekend section of Saturday's Daily Telegraph but during this current spell of wet weather adverts have been non existent. Maybe all these companies could get together to do a fashion show for the fashion press which would then get good coverage in various publications to raise awareness.

Many years ago the Daily Telegraph devoted a page to rainwear which I think included a contribution from Weathervain.

Perhaps garden centres could be persuaded to stock them as they seem to be increasingly stocked with clothing and non gardening things.

Further to my previous message I see that Hamilton Classics are advertising in the Weekend section of today's Daily Telegraph!

I wonder if they are visitors to this website?
