Rainwear Central Rainwear Forum

Is there anyone else here who doesn't like this new forum? I've been trying to come here and like it but I just dont. I thought it would be a good idea to have all the different subforums but now that I see it I cant stand it. I was quite happy with everything being the way it was in the old forum. This is the first time I've been here in the past week cause I wanted to make a post and see what other people think. I know that people bitched cause they didn't think topics belonged in the forum from time to time. Even though Paul said anything rainwear belonged there, people bitched that is sholdn't be. Well, now there are all the sub forums, so I hope you dont look there to all you people who complained, cause it's you who drove me away. Thank you!!!

I think it's great with subforums it makes things way more organized.
The new forum functions like "View new posts", so you can see all new posts made since your last visit makes it a lot easier to follow up. It's also seems faster.

I didn't want to say anything in case I was the only one! I too thought the new forum would be a good idea but find it difficult to get on with. The way the old forum listed in date-order, and especially when it displayed 'unfolded' it was easy to scroll down and to see what you hadn't read/were intersted in. The new forum takes twice as long to look at as I have to keep dipping in and out of different folders and threads.

To be honest, I liked the old format better; this one is too unwieldy and it takes a lot longer to work out where new posts are. It would've been better if it changed colour as well as date.

You also can't see how many people posted before the latest poster (especially annoying if it's a big thread)

A couple of friends whom I know also dislike the new forum very much.

Still, its really a matter of getting used to everything. Let's give it a go, & see how it goes.

can't say i'm a big fan either. It all becomes rather unwieldly. There just doesnt seem enough activity for so many subforums

I tend to agree:I'm wondering how it will be like trying to navigate in a year or so's time when there will be hundreds of threads.BUT,these were very much the sentiments I had when the previous forum changed its layout 3 years ago or whatever,and after a few weeks I was fine.
I think with the present layout you have to visit pretty regularly to keep up with, and work out, whats going on.
Some people are technophiles.I'm a bit of a technophobe.
Each time the forum changes we seem to lose some regular contributers which is sad.We also pick up some new which is good.
The main thing is that its still active.Lets all keep it that way.

Thanks for raising those concerns. We can always go back to the old message board style forum where all posts are mixed into a single forum. However there was a lot of requests to make sub forums for many different rainwear sub groups, which we can do here.

If you feel some sub forums should be merged then feel free to suggest that.

I have been using a few other forums (non rainwear related) in the last couple of years and at first I found grouping and subforums very confusing but I quickly started to see the value there of and it is really very nice once you get the hang of it. Of course if you prefer everything in one place you can always just look in the what new section.

Anyways, would be nice to hear more opinions on this and see if we should go back to the old forum instead ?

From a system management perspective this forum tool is a million times better - but in the end this is a site for you all to enjoy so what you want is what I will give you

Paul,you have an absolutely brilliant attitude.It must be a little disheartening at times to put in all the knowledge and effort that you do and get a lukewarm response like mine.Were it not for you we would have no forum to enjoy.So,whichever way we go,please be aware that you are appreciated.

I want to give the new style a chance. I do like the more organized approach if I am looking for something in particular. However, the old format was nice for just general browsing. I still have an open mind.
