Vintage rubber rainwear

Post by Raincaped&hooded »

I would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in exchanging memories, photographs or documents relating to the period (1930–1970) when rubberised rainwear (raincoats and, even more so, rain capes) was very popular and sparked so much fetishistic enthusiasm. Opportunities for friendly (and more…) and long-lasting relationships and exchanges. Potential meetings may be arranged.

In my collection there are several pics esp of vintage (and contemporarily used) SBR macs and capes which can be found online, some caps of digital copies of old magazines like TMS mag.. DFP. ID, Weathervain Mag etc. And some movie excerpts of that time, e.g. "La Chatte" - most vintage mac addicted people should know about common old movies etc.

On one side I wish I could turn back time just to enjoy all that "live", and maybe to join one of the old Mac Society gatherings with the fashion shows... but on the other side when I look at the (few) public pics of these shows I see only mostly old men dressed in suits looking like your bank consultant, absolutely boring. I'd have preferred an appearance with a matching SBR mac or cape. I read they did that in fear of getting thrown out of the hotel when it looks to much fetish-like, but going there not with proper rainwear would really have been a source of frustration for me. Looking at well-dressed ladies is nice of course, but I also want to live my passion for fashion when it's time for that.

Today with the almost uncontrollable social media stuff I would have serious privacy concerns, and to be honest lots of rainwear people are "too crazy" for my taste so I also don't feel the wish to meet that sort of people in person. Generally spoken I mostly wouldn't join a meeting for that purpose, esp when almost all people there are male.🤷‍♂️

P.S. I think one piece of your post is enough, in that part of the forum here ;)
timeless fashion is the best fashion - classic "rubberized" raincoats are timeless

I am a committed fan of rubber-lined or rubberised raincoats. I have very fond memories of the late fifties and early sixties looking out for ladies in rubber-lined macs.
A special treat was the arrival of the seasonal mail-order catalogues - Brian Mills, Littlewoods, Freemans and others - as these regularly featured raincoats described as waterproof made from rubberised/rubber-lined/rubber-coated fabric. They also looked very stylish, and to me still do.
Please contact me, I'd love to discuss my memories.

I used to have all the Atomage magazines along with some DPF's and Skin 2 ones back in the 70's. You could find ad's for rubber clothing in Exchange and Mart.
