I hear rumours that the Shiny Black Rubber material used to make SBR mackintoshes is or may be shortly unavailable. If so is this the end for British SBR, a very sad occasion if true. I suppose latex will still be freely available as it is still in demand by the Europeans. I now also see that Cordings are
advertising a non rubberized trench and other raincoats. How long will it be until they abandon their hallmark Hancock made double tex macks.
I note also that Mackintosh are mixing in many non rubberized raincoats with their trusty bonded mackintoshes. Are we witnessing the end of British
Rubber Mackintoshes, I wonder ?

Re: End of the SBR Mackintosh ?
It seems to be difficult more than ever to get fresh SBR fabric to make macs out of it... within the last couple of years I've been told by Stephen from Weathervain who run out of SBR fabric he could restock some, but it seems it wasn't that much. Yesterday I spotted the redesign of the Weathervain website and there is only latex to order... before they had at least shiny PU and rubber coated cotton and satin (depending on the colour)... no idea if there is just a faulty online shop or if really latex is the only remaining material.
timeless fashion is the best fashion - classic "rubberized" raincoats are timeless
Re: End of the SBR Mackintosh ?
Hamilton Classics Rainwear still advertise macs in SBR, here is one in a womans style although I believe that they do them in men's styles as well.

I'm not sure whether the material they use is the same as Weathervain used in the past but Hamilton's will send samples so you can check for yourself before ordering. I have one of their macs (not an SBR one) in green rubber on opal white polyester and it is an absolute delight!

Re: End of the SBR Mackintosh ?
I had contact to Aysha (the owner of Ham.Cl.) a couple of years ago and she said she had a rest of SBR with polka-dot inner side, but probably not enough for a (big-sized) SBR mac... and the items on her website are listed as "out of stock" for longer now.

Its a shame the material is running out.
I've always dreamt of buying one, but the costs were prohibitive at first and later it became even worse with importing one to europe from the UK.

Re: End of the SBR Mackintosh ?
Stephen told me late last year that he could no longer get SBR or single texture and that the new web site confirms it - a couple of double texture and everything else latex. Mackintosh have double texture and I was interested to see that "rubberised" has reappeared in descriptions as well as the euphemistic "bonded". Some macks have shiny SBR trim. But the prices!!!
I am afraid that we are indeed witnessing end of the rubber mackintosh.
