wearing a raincoat in public
wearing a raincoat in public
I went to Scotland (Inverness) for a few days and discovered it sure rains a lot there. Most of the time I was walking around in my PUL black mac. Nobody took any notice. Yesterday was home time so hotel to train station wore mac. Kept it on while in Edinburgh despite the fact I was mostly undercover. Moved on to York where I was still wearing it between trains. Even kept it on during short train ride to Leeds, final destination. It was raining betwen station and hotel so just as well.
The upshot is that on a day of frequent showers walking around in a raincoat is no big deal. Nobody cares. Wear your raincoat when appropriate and it really is no big deal.

You can`t get a better feeling than being dressed as a lady and wearing a shiny black pvc raincoat. Have walked a round a few places dressed and people are to busy getting on with life to care, or notice you and what you are wearing, as long as its fashionable, clean and not shouting out loud you are ok.

Re: wearing a raincoat in public
I've been wearing a raincoat out in public for years now, took a while to get used to the fact that nobody cares what you are wearing. I mainly started wearing a raincoat out when it was dark so evenings and mornings until I was comfortable and then just wearing a raincoat when ever I go out. The thing that goes through your head is that you don't want to be recognised, when you can get out and no body sees you or recognises you then you feel more comfortable going out wearing your favourite rainwear. If you go out wearing your raincoat when it's actually raining then there are less people out anyway which is even better. Put your raincoat on and just go out it's ok.

Re: wearing a raincoat in public
This is basically my experience as well. When I first joined this forum 10 years ago, I used to think "how could any man be so brazen and confident to wear a long shiny mac out in public?". But in more recent years I have become more confident myself, as long as it is raining, although I still get a thrill from wearing it in public.
BTW, yesterday I was driving through a town near here and there was a man dressed in a long black PVC mac walking his dog. Since they are rarely worn these days, I wonder if he is a member on here?

The heavier it rains the less people care about your outfit - that seems to be a common experience.
If you wear divers goggles and flippers to your raincoat you would draw attention and laughter for sure

I often wear a nylon raincoat when I walk my dog. Even if it's not raining or looks like it's going to rain.
I've worn one of my nylon raincoats a few times even if it's sunny and there's no chance of rain. In another city though.
No one notices it. A nylon raincoat is also more discreet than a PVC raincoat or rubber raincoat.
In the 60's, the nylon raincoat was used in all kinds of weather. That's how I use it. I like to wear it best in dry weather because it's stiffer and rattles more than when it's wet. The fact that it's stiff and rattles is what turns me on.

I think you should just do it; as some of our colleagues on here have said nobody notices, and if it's wet, and cold, you are in the right gear
I wear a raincoat every day, pretty much - sometimes heavy waterproofs other times Regatta or similar light nylon jackets. Get a Barbour on as well very often. I know it's difficult, I think we all been there to.some extent, and that's possibly a reaction to our fetish generally but really there's nothing odd about it - I think people not in rainwear when required are a bit daft. Enjoy.

It's not for all, but I need no excuse to wear one of my shiny macs out in public, and will once again be doing so later today, when we go for a coastal walk.
It's all about being in your own comfort zone, as to when and where you would wish to wear such a shiny or rubberised mac, and other such attire.
It's true, most people are too busy in noticing, let alone pass comment or even make a judgement, it's only our own perception that we are the only person wearing such, and this is what plays on our mind.
Enjoy as you wish, but be relaxed in the way you do so

Re: wearing a raincoat in public
Wearing a cagoule or an old fashioned waterproof raincoat in public perhaps even in multiplelayers is my ultimate feeling. It is scary, hot and sweaty (especially if locked on somehow) and hugely pleasurable all at once. In my experience people barely even look at you especially if it is raining. If sunny you do get attention but not much and not for the reasons you think. I say just go for it. Having done this several times in recent years I am now trying to come up with a new challenge. As such I have modfied a fall arrest harness and added locks to the two main cross body straps. I put this on over at least two sets of full waterproofs with the hoods up and then add another set of modified waterproofs over the top with holes in the pockets so I an add locked wrist straps that are connected by 2 inch webbing straps to the harness underneath. With this all locked on you can get your hands out of the pockets but cannot remove the cuffs or the harness or the top cagoule. At some point I will pluck up the courage to go for a walk like this leaving the keys at home. With the hood done up over your face and perhaps a ball gag things are going to be more than exciting when you meet one of the neighbours walking their labrador. I doubt they will even notice.......... We shall see.
