LIFE IS GOOD - Part 1

LIFE IS GOOD – Part 1

Life is good, in my mid twenties, a great bachelor flat in Highbury (except every other Saturday when Arsenal are at home). Can wear what I like at home and can even be daring in what I wear going out if I want to. I really enjoy my job. Get to meet so many different people. All colours, creeds and walks of life. Going to all different places in the world.

Today I have another appointment to see someone leaving the country. It’s for 3:00PM, so after that it will be straight home. This time, it’s a young South African retuning home after studying in London for a few years. It has been spitting a little rain all day, but I don’t mind I’m wearing one my favorite outdoor raincoats, a black rayon rubber backed mac. It feels great and no one takes any notice of it. The only visible black rubber is inside the hood. Sitting on the Northern Line tube trundling towards Edgeware I’m drifting into that daydream state, not really paying attention to people getting on or off. I come around as we pull into a Euston station, its mid afternoon and the carriage is almost empty and the rush hour crowd has not started yet. The doors open beside me and in jumps a young lady wearing a stunning semi transparent red double breasted mac, with what appears to be a black PVC dress underneath and black knee length boots. She looks up and down the empty carriage and promptly sits down immediately opposite me. “Am I on the correct train for Edgware” she asks, “Even after all this time I’m still not sure about the direction these thing go” she added. With a huge smile and a growing stirring in my pants I tell her this is the correct train. The train started off again and every now and then I catch her watching me and she catches me watching her. Each time we smile at each other.

Past a couple more stations, she says “Are you going all the way to the end? “Yes” I say. “Me to” she reply’s, “I’m going to visit my college friend Toni before she heads home to South Africa. It could be years before I see her again. I know I’m going to miss her terribly”. “Wow” I exclaimed, “Is it possible we are going to visit the same person. I going to see a Tony VanDean, that I thought was a guy. Is that your friends name?”. She let out a joyful glee “That’s incredible, it must be her, she lives on the High Street” She said. “That’s the address I have” I said as I extend me hand and add “my name’s Charles, but most people call me Chaz”. She took my offered hand “and I’m April, April Showers” she giggled. “Sorry, did you say April Showers” I asked with a half laugh. “My Great Granddad, Granddad and Dad and all had a sense of humor. My Granddad’s name is Storhm and my Dad’s is Thuandeer, everyone calls them Storm and Thunder, our family name is spelled Schouwears, but is pronounced Showers” she replied laughing. “At least your dressed appropriately for the weather and your name” I laughingly say with her. “Don’t you just luv my mac, I have them in a variety of colours, they are so vibrant and have a fabulous feel to them. And yours, is that rubber lining I spy? She said. “Yes it is” I confirm. “Ah ha” she exclaimed with a touch of her finger to the side of her nose and giving me that knowing look and nod. I can feel myself starting to blush and I’m not sure what to say or do. But before I can do anything she add’s, “I bet that feels especially nice to wear to, doesn’t it? Me and Toni are doing Fashion Design at London Poly and have been doing things with rubber, latex and PVC. This mac is one of Toni’s creations and my PVC dress is mine. We can show you some of our design’s if you like when we get to her place, we even have some we designed for guys, you could model them for us”. She was full of delight and happiness at the prospect, and me, well I just could not believe my luck. The remainder of the journey was full of chit chat about each other.
