I thought we had introduced a new policy of manual acceptance of any newcomers. Has that fallen by the wayside?

Paul and I indeed do approve all new members manually; we receive an e-mail notification when someone fills in the online form. We rarely have much difficulty telling who's genuine or not. However, some people do slip under the radar despite our best efforts, but their posts are quickly deleted and offenders - permanently - banned in very short order.
