Well I have 2, both in single-texture mackintoshes and my wife has 4. Hers are in navy-blue and black satin single-texture mackintoshes and then 2 in PVC from Rainmac.

I have 22 raincoats. A couple in vinyl but mostly pvc. Some with a lining and some without. I also have a pair of shiny red pvc pj's. They could double as a rainsuit if needed.

I lost count ages ago ... I'll have to count them one day.

What I do know is that there's far too many ... the majority of which I'll never wear, but they sure look good hanging up in my wardrobe. I ran out of space ages ago though.

As with other posters I have never had them all out at the same time . I keep the majority of them boxed up which is a shame.

I have asked the wife if I could use a separate room to display them and although we have the space she will not agree to it.

They are mainly large or extra large a mixture of male and female but predominately female and I have around 300 -400 upwards I have also got probably 10 nylon overalls which are my other "interest".

I have probably spent £5000- £6000 over the years on my hobby but it has been worth it

My favourite ones are definitely the C&A ones Very nice plastic and well made. The larger sizes have the longer arms

I don't know what I will do with them long term but will probably sell them on ebay

My fantasy would be to have a car boot sale and hopefully watch a few beautiful ladies try them on . I would probably then let them have them for free to go

out and spread the word as they say.

Pleased to hear of somebody else with an interest in "nylon overalls"
Mine started the same time as I got to like pvc rainwear - teenager - largely due to my mother wearing both forms of "protection" though not together - that was left to me...lol

Hi Hotwilly

That's is exactly how my interest was formed

Back in the early days my mum used to wear one then my older sisters and finally my first real girlfriend.

I am sure that I ended up leaving a stain on my mums. My sisters fit friend also helped out at a shop my sister was working in and left her overall in the front room.

I had some fun in that overall which had to be pulled over the head before being buttoned up. I would never have got it off in time had someone returned home early but I suppose that was part of the fun

In those days the house I lived in did not have central heating and my bedroom was cold so when my girlfriend came straight from work

she used to leave her overall on at nooky time. Unfortunately she left the job before I got her in to plastic but a mac on top of the nylon is the ultimate experience.

Those were the days!!

Very similar Macca. .
As I said my mother never wore the two together but I did and as you an odd stain or two was added to the overalls.
As a 14 yo I worked at the local Co-op after school as delivery boy on one of those bikes off Open all Hours. One of the members of staff was an attractive girl about ten years older than me who wore her lovely Co-Op nylon overall as a dress , straight over her under wear. Now that was fantasy land to a 14 year old!

Since the mid 1980's I'm collecting plastic rainwear and have more than 400 coats, capes and ponchos.
My favourites are the ones from the 1940's, 50's, 60, and 70's the oldest raincoat in my collection is from around 1950.
On the photo you can see some of my raingear:

Hi Hotwilly

My mum and aunty worked at the co-op as well!!

Yes in those days even the bank staff wore the nylon overalls as well before they changed to uniforms boo in the early 1980's. I suppose it was part of the co-op workers unite.

My mum used to work in the ladies fashion section and I would sometimes go visit her to see the younger shop assistants which as you say just wore the overall with bra and knickers underneath.

As a 14-15 year old who needed a magazine to get excited.

The change to cotton uniforms was a great disappointment but it came at the time when C&A The Co-op and Debenhams were now stocking the colourful plastic macs which gave plenty of sightings

As they were seen as a fashion item there was nothing better than seeing a young women wearing a full length mac or pvc jacket on a sunny day with bear arms underneath.

I would lock on to them in a crowd even if they were 1/2 a mile away and I still do it today on the rare sightings we get to the amazement of the mrs
