With a birthday round the corner, it got me thinking how long I've liked waterproof gear (for the curious, the answer's "most of my life/since a toddler").
Let's keep the answers light-hearted - I appreciate I haven't thought of every single possible answer, so either click the nearest answer or I guess you could start your own poll - I won't be offended. It's all supposed to be a bit of fun.

How long have you liked rainwear or what got you started?
Best job? Saturday job at motorcycle shop - I was 13. I liked it when it rained and guys came in in their waterproof gear.
Goal? To meet a gay man who likes rainwear and doesn't think it's strange to tog up in my best waterproofs to go to 'bed'

as a teenager in the early 70s there was plenty of rainwear to be found, mostly pvc/plastic so was readily available, somebody suggested to me that wearing it against the skin was kinda erotic so had to try and found it was very erotic, have been hooked since

Cirtainly since the age of 5.I loved to wear an anorak zipped up with the hood up,plastic and nylon macs, wellingtons etc.Of course being a boy I never admitted it.
I have absolutely no idea why this was/is.

5 years old, and I was dressed in a one piece white, green and yellow clown suit for Halloween... I really really enjoyed the feel of it... It was fun not getting soaked in the apple bob! -that's what started it.

The thing that really fascinates me about these "how I got started" stories is the apparent randomness of them.
For instance your experience, evad, of wearing one of those plastic kid halloween costumes is one that has to have been shared by a lot of little boys and girls given how many of those things there used to be in stores. Also you still see a lot of little kids wearing plastic raincoats, and for the most part the adults with them aren't wearing anything resembling plastic. But I suspect that most kids never even notice the distinctive feel of plastic, or that any interest they might have is ignored or even discouraged by parents.
I don't have any specific experience to point to, but vinyl plastic was starting to be used in raincoats, shower curtains, aprons etc. in the late 40's when I was a kid (born 1939), and I found that I was attracted to it. I have no idea why; I just liked the feel of it. But at the same time most of the other kids I knew had the same experiences but I wasn't aware of anyone else's attraction to plastic until a good many years later.

I really cannot remember when I started liking vinyl. I suspect it was when vinyl pants replaced rubber pants and I realized that I liked the smell and feel of the vinyl raincoats my mother had. I also know that I had an early fetish for vinyl shower curtains.

I'd have to admit the random experience also. As a kid I liked the feel of the "Koroseal" shower curtain and then at age 6 my first plastic raincoat that I wore to school in the mid 50's. Everything was quiet until Japan started importing clear plastic rain anoracks in the early 60's. I donned one for biking to school. It was thick, smooth and stiff and really crackled when the weather was cold. That turned me on. As they say, the rest is history

Lot of kids made to wear macs.
Always loved seeing girls in macs longed to wear one but could not admit it.
Love wearing my mackintosh now. Love it even more if made to wear it.

My intrest started with a rubber sheet on my bed. But it was not long before I discovered rubber Mackintoshes, the rubberised poplin with a wonderful smell and the all over enclosure feeling I had when I slipped one around me.. I have been a mack fan ever since,

It started in the late 80ies.
Here in the Netherlands where the long poly-urethane raincoat in fashion.
Also the Agu long raincoat.
On school these days, lots off mothers walked over the playground to bring her kid to the toddler-school. The school was in the back from our school.
On one moment I discovered that some mothers wearing a long pu-raincoat, made of soft/shiny material.
To touch several coats was for me the end, because my little penis grow.
I was then to little to understand why my little penis grow, but every day - on time of a breake - was for me a party.
