Used to have a pvc mac when i was at primary school. It really started when i was 15 and had first got the internet and was looking for a new raincoat and came across ladies wearing pvc macs and it took off from there. I have only just bought my first black pvc mac and black pvc trousers.
I wore my mac into work a few weeks ago and had a few nice comments. One of the girls said 'i like your shiny mac it's nice' another said 'you look like a hiker' and we laughed. One guy said it looks kinky is it rubber so i said no it's better than that it's pvc and he laughed. That put me off from wearing my mac into work again but i do sometimes wear it when i'm out and it's raining and i'm not at work.
As man is het it not done to wear those coats.
My wife is always wearing her long black shiny poly-urethane raincoat, and she love the reactions.
Good luck, from a raincoat lover.
Thanks for your reply longraincoat. I forgot to mention that i'm a man

Re: How long have you liked rainwear or what got you started
I've liked rainwear as long as I can remember. I grew up on a farm, and remember going outside into the barn and there being an adult sized pair of heavyweight waterproof trousers hanging up. One day I decided to try them on and my parents caught me. They must have thought it was cute and bought me my own mini set of yellow farm waterproofs.
As I grew up, I started wearing olive green adults waterproofs - I always wore a boilersuit, waterproof trousers and wellies as a minimum when working on the farm, even when it wasn't raining - but I would have much preferred to have had a nice pair of chest waders and long rubber gloves to wear!
When I could finally drive, things really took off - I bought waterproofs, waders, gloves - all sorts and kept them hidden in the bottom of my wardrobe. I'd sneak them outside and mess around on the farm with them while no-one was watching then have a thorough wash down before storing them again.
I kind of stopped indulging in raingear when I went to uni, but now I've returned to the countryside, its really taken off again and I have loads of gear.

I am going to read this topic more thouroughly later. I like rainwear as long as I can think. When I was 3 or 4, I wanted to wear my anorak in bed even, unfortunately, I wasn't allowed. For some time I was so obsessed of wearing rain jackets and the like, that I was afraid to wear any in public. This is history, and right now, I am heading to overcome my worries about longer capes.

My interest in plastic began in the mid 1960s when around 9 or 10. It was a wet day on holiday, a typical British summers day! I was bought a black see through plastic pakamac to wear. At first it was just a raincoat, but as I continued to wear it at home I found I enjoyed it, although I never let my parents know. The fuss I made when told to put my mac on! Around this time I also wore a navy blue gaberdine for school. Sometimes, unknown to anyone else, I would put my plastic mac on then the gaberdine over it. This was great! It was about this time that I began to get a "growing" feeling in my trousers! As I got into my teens I wore nylon macs, and around 10 years ago I had a hooded nylon cagoule that was pvc coated on the inside. I loved the feel of the pvc against my skin. For the last few years I haven't worn pvc or plastic but may do again.
Ever since I have worn this kind of rainwear I thought I was the only person who enjoyed the sensation.Since I discovered this site and maybe another site,I have realised it is a worldwide interest. At the moment I get my pleasure in seeing women wearing pvc and plastic on photos.

I remember when I was 7 till 16 wearing a gabardine mackintosh to school. It had a lovely rubber aroma, was 3/4 length and double breasted with a belt and hood. It was navy and had a cream/navy check lining. It was made from rubber and cotton I think.
Then for a few years I forgot all about my raincoat and it wasn't until I started in college when I was 18 that I reawakened my love and fondness for rainwear.
Many of you here will remember the yellow and navy pvc reversible raincoats that were so popular in the late 70s and throughout the 80s. You occasionally see a person wearing one today.
Those coats were such a turn on for me. I loved wearing them, even though they were very bright. Buttery yellow is how I would describe them.
I had a few gfs as a college student and each one wore a yellow reversible.God I hearn for those days!!!
Oh I nearly forgot. I also wore wellies, navy, red and yellow.
These days I have a blue pair of Hunters.
I hope rainwear becomes more fashonable, particularly the traditional mackintoshes, plastic transparent rainmacks, et al.
From looking at the BBC news link about the Mackintosh company I think we could be seeing the beginning of a return to those lovely rainwear days.
I don't consider myself bi sexual. I am a straight guy who just adores rainwear.

Re: How long have you liked rainwear or what got you started
Sorry my English is not very good but I hope it is understandable for every body.
I am born in 1950 :
My fist memory about raincoat:
May be I was 4 or 5 years old , my mother wanted me to wear a white long hooded pvc raincoat and as far I can remember I was not very happy. In my memory it lasted a long time before I accepted.
Later, I was 6 or 7 years old, I remember have discovered in a cupboard located in the garage two raincoats in pure vinyl .
My mother’s one: a long hooded raincoat – cape ? I mean a coat but fitted with large sleeves like a cape. It was in vinyl very shiny inside and matt outside with a small texture. The hood was very large and there was a small link of vinyl to close it up.
My father’s one a long raincoat made of smoked see throu vinyl very supple and shiny inside and outside.
Which one was the best . my father’s one
I like very much this charcoal see throu pvc sheet. I remember have very often went down in the garage to smell , wear and… those two raincoats.
Later, when I was 12 …..16 years old (I lived in France near the channel), the fashion was in oilskins vinyl green ( like fisherman raincoat but in parka not long one) . I remember every year at the beginning of the autumn we went bought a new oilskin for bad season. It was a wonderful time to smell in a small shop all those oilskins and to choose a hooded one or a non hooded but with a rainhat you know this special rainhat for fisherman.
As this time I also can remember having found in my grandmother cupboard a raincoat in electric bleu pvc raincoat with hood and buttons not those awfull studs. I can yet remember one day I was in my grandmother home to wash and paint her ceiling and as I started to wash I said "please mummy to avoid to be soaked give me your raincoat" and I spent two or three hours wearing this raincoat. At the end I had to go to toilet , as I was too hard to go on.

Re: How long have you liked rainwear or what got you started
Hi, like a lot of you I don't have a specific time when I can remember getting 'into' rainwear as I've got no recollection of not liking the look of girls wearing smart rainwear although I can say my intrest in PVC and crossdressing definately started through my best mates twin sister Helen buying a shiny black maxi length PVC Mac in the early 70's.
I remember it was a typical spring day in Edinburgh, light drizzle and fog. I was meeting my mate at his house and I was early, he was still out on his paper round, so I was hanging around outside in my jeans and a t-shirt, when Helen came back from the shops wearing her new coat, I must have shown my interest because once we were in the house she told me about how she loved her new coat, how warm and waterproof it was and how I was stupid wearing only a t-shirt in the rain. I sort of agreed and said something about her being lucky that she could wear such a smart coat, well that was it Helen decided that there was no reason why boys shouldn't be able to wear what they wanted, she took of her coat and handed it to me to try on 'for a laugh'. All I will say further about that episode is if my mate had come back five minutes earlier than he did he would have found me in a somewhat embarrassing situation with me wearing a girls coat and kissing and cuddling his sister.

I had my first 'oilskin type' shiny pvc jacket (no hood) when I was about 16 in the 1960's and I still have it to this day! It was bought from Milletts (I think) in West Ealing London. A year or so later a girlfriend had an identical jacket and we spent many a happy time squashed up together kissing and cuddling.
This was the start of my 'thing' about pvc and plastic clothing. I remember having. for many years, a recurring (wet!) dream about going out of my parents house at night, going down a manhole cover and into a 'subterranaean world' where everybody swam about in one piece plastic see through suits. Don't know where the dream came from and I wouldn't mind having it again now - maybe I should buy one of the one piece suits from pvc-u-like!

Yellow reversible pvc raincoats did it for me. I was 17 and bought one for college. Nearly every second girl wore one, guys less so. I just liked the feel and suppleness of the material.
The coats were worn by people all over the world. They featured in films and were very much de rigeur.
I must have bought a dozen of them over the years. Unfortunately, the yellow side could get dirty and grubby easily. But they were cheap and cheerful.
I dated girls who wore them too!!!
These days the coats are very hard to find in shops. They are mostly sold online which is a pity 'cos they are very expensive.
Maybe a buyer for a large department store might consider stocking them again as I am sure lots and lots of people would buy them.
