Discovering Rainwear

Post by oelzeug »

I have started to tell my way to become a rainwear fetishist in a facebook group, but I think it is a good way to show my experiences and thoughts als in this Forum. Maybe it can lead to some other points of view or a discussion. (English is not my first language, so please excuse some mistakes and the grammar. I am from Germany)

I would like to introduce myself in short: I am 56 years old, of course I feel much younger, and have been a lover of rainwear for over 40 years. Since then, Friesennerz(this is the yellow raincoat with blue lining, the yellow side has been made first with a rubber coating, later PVC and now PU) and other rainwear have been my constant companions. It is interesting that there are many people who associate rainwear with bondage or BDSM.

I am interested in what these reasons are, there are certainly different opinions and approaches.
It was a bit of a strange experience for me, at least as far as I can remember. When the first yellow Friesennerz appeared in the early 1970s, I found them ugly and I felt sorry so for the girls who wore them. I imagined that their parents forced them to do it so that they could be better seen in traffic or in the dark. In addition, this piece of clothing was really unisex, the feminine contours disappeared. I was particularly fascinated by women with tightly tied hoods and over time an erotic feeling developed when I hit puberty. Fortunately for me, the Friesennerz was was popular that almost half of girl owned this kind of raincoat.

For me, however, the Friesenerz was a piece of clothing that I only associated with women. Only with them was this magical feeling in me, the sexual arousal that went so far that I associated "Friesennerz" with desire, but with the vague thought that the wearers are submissive or even masochistic, even though I was 13 with these terms did not know yet. But for me the question was still open, what motivates a pretty girl to wear this bulky and obviously heavy piece of clothing with a strong rubber smell.
It may sound silly, Boys or men caused the contradiction of this feelings. Men, especially submissive men, did not appear in my fantasy world.

Interestingly, my two year older sister found these yellow jackets abhorrent and preferred an olive green parka. But many of her friends had this object of my desire, this yellow rubber jacket with a blue cotton lining. When girl friends of hers came to visit, my heart beat faster and I felt excitement and the need to touch the yellow rubber jacket. That's why I often walked past the cloakroom and stroked the smooth rubber material that electrified me.
I still didn't want to buy a Friesennerz, I was a "man" who didn't have to wear something like that, but I often wandered through the C&A and the department store and tried out different sizes, open and closed, with and without a hood, open or laced up and looked at me in the mirror. It was my private fashion show that I enjoyed with shudders. At the beginning of 15 I took my heart in my hand and bought my first yellow rubber jacket with my pocket money. It was a sultry day with the prospect of a thunderstorm. The selection process was very tedious, after all this rubber jacket cost 40.00 DM at that time. I was blushuing the whole time and began to sweat. my heart was pounding. The contact with the divine material and the anticipation of the purchase excited me visibly. I felt like I was being watched all the time, hoping no one would speak to me. I interpreted the look of the saleswoman at the cash register as if she saw through me and knew my erotic fantasies. (to be continued if you like)

I had one of these wonderful coats. A man with a mission. Saw it, wanted it, so I can say I certainly know where you are coming from here, so, please, tell us more. Your English is fine, please set finger to keypad. We wait with bated breath.

Marvellous! I think many on this site will relate to early years of visual attraction to a particular style or look of rainwear. I was from a very young age attracted to anything macky, shiny and hooded. 60years later a shiny hooded mac or a jacket will still turn my head!

I didn't dare to look her in the eye, but wordlessly pushed the rubber raincoat over the counter. She took it, flattened it and folded it carefully before putting it in a large plastic bag. I watched her actions with a feeling I never had before, the bright yellow jacket will be in my possession soon and I felt a mixture of anticipation and shame. The inimitable smell of rubber was in the air, or was it just my imagination? "That'll make forty Marks," the saleswoman's words made me blush again and I shivered a little and reached for my wallet. The ceiling lights seemed to burn my cheeks as she handed me the bag. "Enjoy your buy. Good bye"." Good bye" I stuttered. She turned back to another activity, while I stood rooted to the spot with the bag in my hand, but then I got a grip of myself and moved to the exit.

When I was sweating with excitement in the fully air-conditioned shop, the humid atmosphere outside hit me like a blow. It had been probably still more than thirty degrees Celsius. I moved the few steps to my bike. I had the plastic bag with my sweetheart or was it my fate firmly under control, around me passerbies in summer dresses, shorts, T-shirts and short-sleeved shirts and - I had in my plastic bag a very heavy yellow rubber rain jacket. The first dark clouds could be seen in the sky already and a slight breeze was perceptible. I was torn, should I really - in the midst of the scantily clad people ...? A yellow rubber jacket, which was as ugly as sin and which excited me beyond measure so that a bulge formed and stretched in my pants. A yellow rubber jacket, its smell billowed out of the plastic bag and I enjoyed it with disgust and arousal.

As in trance, I took the rubber jacket out of the plastic bag, it was really heavy and yellow, very yellow. I inspected the brand new yellow rubber jacket. It had two small breast pockets, just big enough to hold a pack of cigarettes. On them as well as on the large pockets there were snaps, also on the sleeves, for tightenig. The hood was big, very big actually. Without any thoughts, I slipped into the yellow rubber jacket in the middle of the forecourt of the fashion department store, pulled the zipper up to my neck and also closed it with the attached snaps. I even buttoned my sleeves to the tightest position. I felt as if I was encircled by the rubber, strange, exciting, unusual, an unprecedented feeling, in the middle of the humid heat in front of the eyes of dozens of passers-bies who, I had been convinced, stared at me. There it was again, that feeling of pride about my new acquisition and the shame like a stranger had given me the command to buy this yellow rubber jacket. I felt rubberized. Locked in. Captivated.

Thank you so much, Mason. I admire your style of writing since many years. "Raincoats -The Story was one of my favorite pieces I have ever read about rainwear. Sadly it is not anymore to be found on the net. I wish I would be able to write like you.

When I have started with my introduction at this facebook group I wanted to write 5 or 6 lines to give a little impression of me as a group member, but the memory come back of this moment buying my first raincoat and if you start to think about this times, one memory adds to the other. I have now so many memories since yesterday, I could really write a small book, but for that my writing skills are lacking and in English it is even harder for me.

Sounds like a dream scenario where not only your favorite rainwear is available at the local store but it is also worn by many others

No, it is not a dream scenario, in Germany the yellow raincoats have been very popular in the seventies and eighties, nearly half Germany was wearing one. the stores have been packed with them. The strange thing for me about it, I didn't like them cause I found them so ugly, but they aroused me. Tis is what I wanted to describe in this little story.
I give you some examples. (material is very rare of this time)

There has been also a wonderful article in a german magazine about this era (sadly it is in german language, if you wish i will translate it)

The end of the color yellow
How the East Frisian jokes made the oilskin embarrassing

https://www.mare.de/das-ende-der-farbe- ... ntent-2990

An excerpt:"Actually, this rain jacket was the realization of communism in the fashion field: I don't know anyone who hasn't worn it at some point, nobody who couldn't have afforded the screaming yellow rubber jacket. And because the jackets were very spacious in every size, they actually canceled ownership: No matter which jacket you grabbed at the shared cloakroom, it always fit, somehow. And if it hung up to the calves instead of to the middle of the thighs on one, but tensed a little on the back of the other - it didn't bother. They rejected water, wind and weather in any case."

Sanne describes this kind of coat in his outstanding Blog "Rainwearpassion". On the pictures you can also find the rubber ones which I have bought 1980.
They are nearly impossible to get now on ebay and if one available they will be sold for unreasonable prices to the collectors.
I hope this background information will be a little help for understanding my story, it has nothing to do with a Dream Story, but it has been a time I a have been in a dreamland for rainwear fetishist, not knowing being one.

"The newly introduced Friesennerz raincoats would quickly become hugely popular in the sixties, mostly because of the very competitive sales price of around 20 Deutsche Mark, which would now be around 40 euros when corrected for inflation. The increasing demand gave Jeantex reason to expand production capacity, and with their customer base mainly being in Germany they partly moved to Hamburg and soon after to Rellingen, which is also in Germany. The popularity of the Friesennerz is best captured in a comment from Jeantex managing director Wolfgang Linden, who indicated that when you looked into a football stadium in the seventies when it was raining, everything was yellow. Below a model wearing a Friesennerz raincoat"

Think there is a small difference of interpretation of the language: something being a "dream scenario" does not have to mean it is made up and could only happen in dreams, it can just refer to a place and time that one would want to experience.

And interesting read about the friesennerz, came across rainwearpassion before but never paid too much attention to the friesenerz raincoats as I have never seen one myself. Your explanation they got really expensive and are sold to collectors might explain that, guess not many people still use them outdoors anymore. The clip of all those people wearing those coats looks like a great time to be alive.

Interesting read altogether, i love these kind of stories based on true events describing how things were in the past.
