White spots on polyurethane rainwear

Post by Deleted User 415 »

Hi all,
Can polyurethane bloom like rubber?
Can polyurethane develop discoloration when against metal the way latex can?

I have white blotches on a rain jacket and trying to determine how to clean it and what caused it.

I never had this with PVC coated nylon, so polyurethane rainwear is a new concept and new set of challenges.

How can one get white stains out of polyurethane?

If the polyurethane was sitting up against another surface it could have developed a fungus or mold.
So if it has actually stained the material white I am pretty sure (Hard to say without seeing it) that you won't be able to get the stain out.
Most materials don't like to sit up against metal and other non porous materials because it attracts mold.
If it isn't stained you could try vinegar, clove oil or something similar to kill the bacteria before hand washing it.
Chlorine based products are kind of a last resort as they could bleach it. (Test on a piece of material that cant be seen).
Anyway hope that helps.
