My girlfriend at the time (Rachael) had a few semi-transparent plastic macs in various colours (natural and pastel) - wonderful times. She used to buy them at C&A and Van Allan - that said, I seem to remember I paid for most of them!Priscilla wrote: November 2nd, 2023, 6:34 pm Ah, the eighties, the best time for those wonderfully soft pastel coloured macs and jackets. Having returned to the UK in 1979, I had an afternoon in Oxford Street, and was amazed and delighted at the range of lovely hooded macs on display in every touristy shop as well as the old favourite, C&A. I went home with two beauties, both long - nearly floor length - one a translucent purple Regency line, and the other clear bronze. If I had got the money and storage, I could have filled the back of my car with so many different styles and colours. And the plastic was good quality, quite thick with a delicious smell. Ah, the memories.
Great story about the "modelling" - LOVE IT!WealdenMac wrote: November 4th, 2023, 3:27 pm The Van Allan macs were very attractive and popular for a while. My wife had a couple of those hooded C&A macs with press stud fronts (one emerald green, one with a purple stripe) that were also seen around quite a lot. I bought both of them in London's Oxford Street and was quite pleasantly surprised on one occasion when a woman, seeing me eyeing the rail, took a couple off and "modelled" them for me to help me make my choice.
These pics of macs from Van Allan should stir the memories of a few of our members!WealdenMac wrote: November 4th, 2023, 3:27 pm The Van Allan macs were very attractive and popular for a while. You're most welcome. Yeah, "that detail" - definitively says it's a mac from Val Allan!WealdenMac wrote: November 6th, 2023, 9:45 am Thanks.
The first two show that detail just below the neck that subtly added to their attraction.
