I seem to remember those macs from the late 80's early 90's from a brand called Nuage. I can't remember if it was a friend's mum or an aunt who had one, but i do recall that although the main body of the mac had a normal nylon / silky lining, a lot of the other parts had a black shiny pvc backing. This included the back of where the buttons were, the collar, the arm cuffs and the bottom 6" of the hem.
I think i managed to slip on her coat once for a few seconds and it did feel lovely.

I remember them too Pete but I couldn't remember the brand (Nuage). Thanks for that! Going on memory I seem to remember that such macs could be bought from Debenhams.

Yes indeed Beth - the 'drop-off' seemed to start in the mid-90s and things haven't really recovered.
