Suggestions for UK-based male shiny rainwear fan

Post by rubberraving »

Hello everyone,

With all this wet weather, it is time for me to upgrade my raincoat.

I'm looking for suggestions for a long waterproof raincoat that is lightweight and ideally has a shine to it. Stutterheim Long Opal is fab but a little to heavy for what I am looking for. Farmerrain are equally lovely but again a bit too heavy.

Rains look like they do a lightweight shiny black long coat in 'Night' which looks good, does anyone have one of these?

I have a couple of PVC-U-Like long macs which are great too, lovely against the skin and nice and shiny but I am looking for something a bit more 'everyday' if that makes sense.

Let me know if you have any ideas, thanks!

Check out walkthestorm.co.uk, they have some amazing shiny Ilse Jacobsen raincoats for women, and they come in extended sizes that fit men fairly well

You could watch out for a used Stutterheim Nolby which is opal/shiny and 143 cm long. Its cut is straight and (right buttoning) unisex shape, their marketing people (which are dumb morons imho) sold it only in the women's section but
a) it's absolutely unisex qualified bc of the mentioned straight cut, not A-lined like the Mosebacke coats
b) it seems to be the same cut like the Marni collab a couple of years before which was sold as unisex coats (but terribly expensive).
If you are rather tall and slim you should be able to wear a Nolby coat. The Nolby is made of the lightweight opal fabric (I own two) and yes it's significantly lighter than the long opal Stockholms.
timeless fashion is the best fashion - classic "rubberized" raincoats are timeless

Elements Rainwear sell a variety of beautiful and traditional-style or vintage-style raincoat designs.

Many of the raincoats are marketed towards women, such as the 'fluted' designs, but a number of raincoat designs can pass as unisex, and they do actually have a Traditional Gents Raincoat:

I can recommend their Traditional Gents Raincoats from personal experience. Mine is wonderfully shiny, quite heavy and the size I have ordered comes almost down to my ankles. The rubbery buttons remind me of those of the Pakamacs I wore when a boy back in the 1950s generous size pockets and the large integral hood complete the package.
