it would be nice to see a return to the rukka style material but given the whole pvc public health scares there are no substitutions that come close.

The present feel is one thing, the long-time durability is something different. I don't like fabrics getting sticky, hard etc after a couple of years.
This was a prob the German Klepper coats have depending on their treatment and on their date of manufacturing (they changed afaik the coating in the end of the 1960s to a worse material which isn't as durable as the older coats manufactured in the 1950s and 60s.).

the pvc raincoats china mades though are low quality unfortunately. japan's style from what i have seen is not the same. in the US we had wippettes which have the big hoods. the reversibles are the ones that are very popular as they are shiny on the outside and semi shiny on the inside and large hoods.

I bought a Stockholm opal navy blue last year. The quality of the fabric has declined so much! The fabric is not the same as formerly. It was thick, slippery and crinkle, it is not anymore. What a pity. I do not advice 2024 Stutterheim.

I can't agree with that, I have direct comparison to the navyblue Stockholm opal of the 1st gen (the heavier and thicker material) and the long Stockholm navy opal from last autumn and I also own a black Stockholm opal of the 2nd opal gen where the thinner material was used for the first time as opal fabric.

the old one 1st gen is much stiffer, esp putting the hood off your head when you enter e.g. a tram or a bus is noticably more difficult bc it's so stiff material. The thinner newer fabric is much more comfy to wear and I wouldn't call it declined quality in terms of the material.
What declined for sure is the quality of their product range why I started this topic - the new stuff is so weird and strange and far beyond the classic timeless Rukka-esque raincoats the brand Stutterheim stands (or stood) for when Alexander raised his business.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't care about all their new stuff if they did their core product range in perfection, and the opal ones should come back in more colours like burgundy or yellow and as long ones up to XXL! But they disappear more and more and we get all the creepy new stuff instead. 🥴😰

If I had known this, I would have bought more of them *sigh*

I'm so not happy. They've just lost many good customers. Hope they're happy with it

Damn, this is really bad news! Their opal collection is really outstanding. They act in a Murphy's law manner... everything which they can make wrong they do it wrong! They can go to hell with their ugly and rubbish new stuff! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

As a substitute for a long raincoat there's only the Retro which is great btw, but a different cut and a different hood shape. I have the new 2.0 in black, the material is much softer than the predecessor, but it isn't as shiny as the Stutterheim black opal. It's different.
