As the title suggests is anyone interested in more modern/technical rainwear? I’m talking about nylon rain jackets from the likes of north face, regatta, helly hansen etc.
I’d love to talk to people who share similar interests
It seems most members in here are into pvc (not that there’s anything wrong with that )

Modern lightweight rainwear like Regatta pack aways, remakes of cagoules with nylon ie regatta stormbreaks, kway, peter storm cagoules all get me going x
I am. I have a love for Protected Species, designed by and for women to sublime texture, appearance and finish standards. It’s just not fair that it’s aimed at women. Curiosity got the better of me with love at first sight on their Facebook posts. I bought a Parka in black, size 16-18 and it fits me so well. Would work for any male with a chest size up to 44” as a minimum. It comes with a lovely hood and is 100% waterproof. I have never had a second look from anyone when I’m out and about in it (often).
I also have a navy blue Beaufort D-Robe. A full length fully water and windproof raincoat with a deep and cosy hood. It is also very ‘modern’ but reminds me of times spent in long raincoats through the ages. I love the way it caresses the back of my lower legs when zipped up. So erotic. A lovely coat to take rugged doggy walks in or to snoggle up with by the fire.
I recently bought two (yes 2) beige Jaeger trenchcoat from M and S. Luxuriously rich and thick gaberdine with a detachable throat strap. One is in a larger fit than the other as I love to layer up at this time of the year.
I dip into Vinted occasionally and buy pre-loved, I’ve had some poor specimens though and have sold-on or ditched most except a lovely Burberry trench with a silky smooth lining and rewarding smell.
At this time of year I generally become obsessed at the sight of women in long and luscious puffer coats. A glimpse of the inner lining gives mystique and interest. I have my own as I love to touch its smooth and semi-shiny texture.
Variety definitely spices up my wardrobe with options to suit most occasions.
Finally, smell is vital. Old or new, coats must have delicious smells.
Hey. Each to their own. Enjoy what you love. Love what you enjoy.
I really like the look (and feel) of Goretex jackets on women. Brands like Sprayway, Berghaus, Arc'teryx, Musto, Gill etc.
It's not 'modern' per se, but my favourite material is nylon
Polyamide (also known as Bri-nylon). It was popular around the 70-80s and most heavy-duty outdoor clothing was made from it. It's lighter weight than PVC but mutch more durable and it feels great. Brand like Henri Lloyd made a lot of sailing clothing from it, and they backed it with rubber. It's not breathable by any means but it's the real deal. My 'every day' waterproofs are from a brand called Field and Trek, who made hiking waterproofs in nylon polyamide. Long cagoules and overtrousers.
Unfortunately everything now is made from 'breathable' stuff and needs to be reproofed every few years to maintain the waterproofing.
I remember the Field and Trek stores, went into one in London while I was on a n interrail trip, coming from Dublin and travelling to Europe, stayed in london for a few days, done some rainwear shopping and got a F&T Cagoule, if memory serves me right it was in Green, Hard to get cagoules now,
