What got you into wellies (rubber boots)?

Post by Willy »

What got you guys into wellies (rubber boots)? Do you recall any early experiences?

For me, it was when I was maybe 13 or 14 years old.
A friend of mine had pretty large yard, and we would often hang out at his place. There was a lot of snow that winter, and his dad used their tractor to clear the snow from the driveway. He would pile all the snow into a gigantic snow mountain next to the garage, and my friend and I would climb onto the garage roof and jump down into it. We were hanging out at his place and playing video games like on any other day when he insisted that we go outside and jump into the snow pile before going to the movies. I wasn't really prepared that day and was only wearing regular trainers as we were going to the movies later, and I didn't feel like sitting there with wet shoes.
My friend then suggested that I could borrow his sister's wellies since she was away and never used them anyways. I hesitated a little because I never wore rubber boots myself. 13-14 year old me thought they were too embarrassing. but I agreed. However, I was not at all prepared for the kind of wellies she had.
Almost dropped my jaw when he pulled them out of their shoe shelf for me. They were black and shiny hunter boots that looked multiple times too tall for me (I was pretty short). He handed them to me and told me to try put them on. I started feeling a little shaky as I took them. I sat down on a chair and began trying to pull them on and then pull my pants down over them to hide them, but my friend looked at me and sighed and said something along these lines:
"Have you never had wellies before? Your pants are supposed to go inside the welly so you're protected.."
He bent down, pulled the boots back off me, and then started bunching up my pant legs so he could tuck them inside the boots. The smell of rubber was strong, and I could feel I was starting to get harder and harder. The boots fit perfectly, but as I mentioned earlier, I was still pretty short, which meant they ended up going all the way up to my knees and probably looked more like waders than normal wellies. I slowly stood up trying my best to hide the fact I was hard as a rock, but my friend noticed it and giggled when he saw it. He asked if I liked the wellies, which I obviously did.
I don't remember if anything else happened at that moment. We probably just went out playing in the snow.
Ended up using these wellies multiple times after that

That's my story. Looking forward to hearing yours :)

I've liked wearing wellies since I was a kid but it was around 10 when I started wearing them nearly daily in all weathers when sailing and bath with them on.
I found out how great it felt to get sweaty feet in wellies.
A little bit later I found rubber riding boots and they became a passion.
I could wear them all day at the stable and my boots was soaked with sweat in the evening!

My love for wellies goes as far back as I can remember, but my passion for them came in my teens when things started tingling whenever I wore a pair, ever since then I've always had a collection of wellies, riding boots and waders, my favourites are any boots that are unlined like Nora wellies or older heavy duty Snowbee PVC waders, I just love the feel of them on my feet, especially after a couple of hours of wearing when they're all slippery with sweat on the inside, it get's to the point I just don't want to take them off!

So I was about 12 went to a friend's house to play, in the countryside it was raining really hard and we wanted to go outside in the garden and muck around, but his mother would not let us as I didn't have any wellies with me so she told me to wear hers as I only had small feet, I was really embarrassed at first then so turned on wearing her wellies, they were navy with yellow soles and yellow tie tops, never looked back only wear ladies or fem unisex wellies now!
