Rubber or plastic?

I find rubber to be cold or clammy. It is expensive too. I prefer the smell and feel of vinyl.

For me I like both and they have their pros and cons. There is nothing a s beautiful as a glass clear raincoat in the rain, but what I like about rubber (latex) is the amount of verity of colours and thicknesses available. Not only that but it is relatively easy to work with. PVC needs welding equipment to create clothing, latex items on the other hand can be made by anyone with a little bit of practice and skill. I would love to make 90s style colour block cagoules out of latex as they would look so shiny and cool. All the modern rainwear in the shops are going down the drab mute colour palettes like all modern clothing and it makes me sad. I'm not totally against TPU either as I have a few clear dry bags made out of it and it's wonderfully rubbery and totally transparent. It also has that squeakiness that some people find delightful, I wish rainwear manufacturers would use clear TPU more often as they would get my money.
PS My fav raincoat is a Helly Hansen Moss jacket in yellow, it is well designed (could use a peaked hood though), surprisingly breathable, supple and wonderfully silky to the touch. I wear it when ever it is raining, unlike heavier options from Guy Cotten and Farmer Rain which although are great are just a bit heavy for day-today use.

So rubber or plastic, pvc or whatever, if it's raining just wear your gear with pride and brighten up the dull day with a splash of colour and make someones day!

Vinyl plastic for me, always.
Although I'm finding that polyurethane has its good points too.

If they did more raincoats in a shiny Polyurethane material for I would buy them up.

It’s a shame there aren’t many of us who are into nylon raincoats. Unfortunately.

Oh I love nylon rainwear, the way the satin catches the light, the swoosh sound and the crisp feel. I love a royal blue cagoule or longer fit. Love the storm flap over the zip, the hood loose over the back or worn over the head. Nylon is delicious, I love it when it has a coating either the old pvc or newer pu. Not a fan of the netting inner liner (but I understand why they add it). I just wish the colours were more bold, plum and teal bore me. Bring back bright colours and some reflective motifs. All rainwear is fantastic really, I can get behind any material or style as long as it's worn by someone who is enjoying the rain.

Personally, I much prefer plastic. I must have started wearing it when I was eight. I’ve always liked it, as far as I can remember. I remember the reversible raincoat I had when I was ten; it was the classic yellow and blue. I’ve no idea what ever became of it.

My fondest memory is of a transparent white plastic raincoat. Once I even tore it under the sleeve because I’d been too rough with it. I hid it from my mum, but she saw it and threw it away.

Afterwards, I managed to rescue it from the bin twice before it was thrown away a third time, but this time it had been cut up.

After that, I never stopped wearing them throughout my teenage years, and I’ve always loved wearing them.

In fact, I found a German website selling 1980s-style ‘Jelly jacket’ plastic raincoats. And I must admit, I love wearing them. I’ve even bought children’s plastic capes on Vinted that I can still fit into. I love the childish patterns. It’s pure pleasure.

Pour ma part, je préfère de loin le plastique. J'ai du commencer à en mettre a mes 8 ans. J'ai toujours aimé cela d'après ce que je me souviens. Je me souviens de mon imperméable réversible de mes 10 ans, il était de couleur classique jaune et bleu. Ce qu'il en est advenu, je ne saurai pas le dire.

Mon plus grand souvenir est un imperméable en plastique blanc transparent. Une fois je l'avais même déchiré sous la manche car j'avais été trop brusque. Je l'ai caché à ma mère elle l'a vu et l'a jeté.

Par après j'ai pu le récuperé 2 fois à la poubelle avant qu'il ne soit jeté une 3eme fois mais cette fois ci il avait été découpé.

Par la suite je n'ai upas cessé d'en mettre pendant l'adolescence et j'ai toujours aimé en porter.

J'ai trouvé d'ailleurs un site allemand qui vendait des imperméables en plastique type "Jelly jacket" des année 1980. Et j'avoue j'adore les mettre. J'ai même acheté sur vinted des capes en plastique d'enfant que j'arrive encore à mettre. J'adore les motifs enfantin. C'est un pure plaisir
