pvc clothing repair services

Post by rainwearseeker »

i am still looking for a place where i can send in pvc garments to get them repaired. candy coated squeaks will no longer provide any services because i was informed that my standards are too high. are there any other places that offer repairs?

If you can get hold of a similar material you can make a good repair yourself. I do not know what part of the world you live in, but in Britain there is a glue made by Bostick which is for flexible plastic which makes a very good repair.

Bostik Soft Plastic glue is readily available and I have used it many times and it works very well. Strong and flexible

The most telling comment: “ i was informed that my standards are too high “ suggests that you need to try for yourself and see how hard it is before you judge other people’s efforts.

i had a suit fixed and it resulted in a rip after i put it on and the service decided to no longer help me even if it just for a small rip. i am not very comfortable making these sort of repairs as i am not experienced with it and you need a well ventilated room because of the fumes the glue gives off.

If I tear my PVC Macs and feel they are not able to be repaired, I cut them into a shape of Aprons, then I have a nice PVC Apron .....no waste 😊

I've used this to repair PVC gear, all you need is a pair of scissors. Alternatively, you could just use duct tape.

I’d see it as an opportunity to learn a new skill. If you don’t have an old mac you cut up for material to experiment with PUL do a bag of mixed offcuts of plastic. There is a video online of a guy that reinforces PUL seams as soon as he buys a garment, using glue delivered through a fine needle. I have also heard talk of combining glue and sew, but have never tried sewing as it sounds scary for the garment!

Who knows, if you get good at repair you could offer out your services to other members! Imagine the delight of having rainwear set to you for fixing, and the joy of having to handle lots of other raincoats and get paid for it.

You could try McNett seam grip, you can buy it in most outdoor shops, i be repair plastic macs with it and a few cagoules with rips over the years, it lasts and is flexible and durable, have fixed some vans shoes that shrunk and came away from the rand and a year on of daily use it’s still going strong
Lets get swishy!
