PVC Oily Surface

Post by dotaa »

2 days ago, I wore PVC suit to bed for an hour. I returned it to the shelf without cleaning up. I merely sweated for a while. Today, I discovered oily surface on the PVC near the chest area and the back. However, the oily surface is found not just at the location where it contacted the skin, but also at the opposite surface. What could be the cause?

Your sweat contains oils and they may have penetrated the PVC. Always wash PVC, latex and shiny lycra before storage just to be on the safe side.

The Oily residue is the Plasticisers permeating to the surface. Your body heat and sweat has reacted with the PVC and allowed the plasticisers to leach out. Once the Plasticisers have been released they are not going back so the PVC becomes brittle. There is a fair chance your body has absorbed some plasticisers, don't worry they will not kill you as the body clears them quite easily through your urine and to date I do not know of any ill effect of plasticisers on the human body.

The PVC suit I wore to bed is from Fabimonti from Germany. I also have raincoat and plastic pants from PVC-U-LIKE and nothing similar happens so far. Am I safe to assume that the all PVC from PVC-U-LIKE are of high quality and the plasticisers do not leech out easily? I love PVC but I am not willing to trade bodily pleasure for unknown health hazard.

Some years ago i had similar worries but I think in an aera of pet bottles for water, glyphosate in beer and food and microplastic in the water, you can ignore the plasticisers. It's not as much as all the other daily things :) I also consider the PVC-U-Like stuff as high quality. Only be careful with some cheap chinese factored pvc inflatables. If it stinks real penetrantly it's a health risk.
PVC is sexy.

I had worries about cleaning pvc and did post a question earlier this month about this as I am planning to wear my pvc for long periods. I received a reply to this question, which was most useful. As all my pvc garments were purchased from PVC-U-LIKE, I took the opportunity to email to ask about cleaning, basically the reply was to turn the items inside out, wash the items with mild soap in warm water (warm but not too hot) and to ensure ALL traces of soap are carefully removed, then hang items to "drip" dry (air dry). So I plan to follow this advice to ensure the garments are well looked after.

What type of soap is the most suitable for PVC items? Can I bath with my garment and wash it along the way?

According to the folks at PVC-U-Like any type of soap would do along as the garment is thoroghly cleaned of ALL traces of the soap, I purchased from a local supermarket, a pack of 4 "pure soap bars, fragrance & colour free, I too thought about bathing and washing my garments along the way, it might just be me but it would possibly defeat the purpose of removing sweat from the inside and being able to remove all the soap thoroughly.

After sweating wearing my PVC or Rubber clothes , I have a shower wearing my PVC and Rubber clothes then leave them to drip dry for awhile then wipe with a clean towel.

Hi Folks.
I had this problem a number of years ago with a latex catsuit I recieved from China.
It did worry me some so I threw the catsuit out.. I buy my pvc and latex from pvculike or from the top end on the high st.
Latex is bought form cocoon or rubber eva.
I always glow in pvc anyway. hehehe.
