the other thing is our lifestyle nowadays compared to that of years back. Time was when something waterproof was essential, shopping probably involved a walk to the local shops, the butcher for meat, the greengrocer for fruit and veg, the baker for bread, etc etc. Now its in the car to the supermarket the need for rainwear is somewhat superfluous for most. Even going shopping generally now the shops are in malls and are covered so wearing a raincoat is a sweaty unnecessary thing to do. The only time it comes in handy is when waiting for the bus which is usually late and the harder it rains the later it seems to be. Its then taken off an put in the bag for the rest of the day when on the bus

Stores like Primark, Top Shop, Inernacionale have all recently sold pvc raincoats,but where do they all go once they are sold? Maybe there are lots of people out there who haven,t "come out" in public like us ore unaware of sites like this to share their love of pvc. At the start of the year I bought a shiny blue Internacionale pvc jacket, and wore it once outside as a "dare" for myself. I am the only person I know to have worn one outside. Come on girls,get macked up in public,If a guy like me can do it so can you! Its sensible to wear pvc in this wet weather,never mind whether its fashionable or not.

We've covered this topic before,but there seems to be some sort of mainstream cultural aversion in most of Britain to wearing rainwear;indeed to the wearing of "proper"coats in general.
Cross the Channel or the North Sea and things are somewhat different.
People in mainland Europe have basically the same mix of lifestyles and climate as we do.
I've never really looked for rainwear retailers when I've been in Europe,but surely they must exist there.

Regarding the h&m, top shop, primark macs, yes you only see them being worn on the high street occasionally but again I'm sure the car is the main reason for that. Take a trip to a theme park, festival, fete, or any other outdoor activity and they come out of the wardrobe. This month I've seen about 8 or 9 different lafies wearing shiny rainwear. Maybe the high petrol prices will encourage people back out of their cars and back on foot again, wearing suitable rain protection.
