I've hardly ever found any decent rainwear from a car boot sale, as opposed to charity shops, but this morning I went to the car boot sale down the road and there was a knee length yellow PVC raincoat, shiny inside as well as outside. I had to have it even though I felt a bit self conscious buying it. Roll on the next rainy day!

The biggest part of vintage Agu rainwear collection is bought second hand both from websites and thrift stores.

There is very little "proper" PVC rainwear available new these days with enviromental and health concerns surrounding it, I do like the cheaper stuff you can get from China, some of the materials they are using have a really nice sensual feel to them. Most of the time I'm trawling through worldwide ebay searches for my rainwear purchases, it doesn't happen often but occasionally a set of vintage waterproofs that have been in a shed or on a boat for years turn up and I have to bid, it's the same with vintage wellies and waders, there's just something about the aroma of old PVC and rubber that gets me excited, I love it.

Exaggeration of risk and environmental harms is par for the course in this era of health and safety paranoia.

Sure, environmental protection is imporant, as is safety, but everything is blown out of proportion and over-exaggerated by the 'Nanny State' and the fanatical environmental lobby who'd make us all wear clothing made from hemp fibres or paper, if they had their own way.

The fetish and sensory appeal aside, PVC rainwear lasts a long time. As does rubber. Certainly much longer than these cheap and tacky single-use polythene ponchos and macs made from EVA. Plasticized PVC has to be the most durable waterproof polymer out there; it is made to last. PVC garments can be re-used and repurposed once they are damaged beyond repair.

I myself, finding a few at minute. Peter Storm. 3 new ones for my collection. All vintage. 2 off a certain secondhand app and the other in a charity shop today.

2 full zip royal blue and navy over the head Peter storm cagoules.

Must get round to photo them and share on here.

The smell and feel of them is heaven.
